Ecosifter

Fibre sifters are used for processing softwood and rubberwood bres. They serve to remove tramp material, glue clots or latex particles from the resinated and pre-dried bre ow. Only a meticulous preparation like that can ensure a homogeneous board surface without any stains. In addition, sifting is an eective protective measure for the steel belt in the subsequent pressing process. The sifter is fed from the top. Disintegrating rollers mounted in the feed chute loosen up and homogenise the bre ow. Air is introduced from the bottom. The calculated volume ensures that the acceptables, which are lighter, are conveyed upwards, while the heavier rejects drop downwards to be discharged via rotary air lock. The entire sifter and all its ducts and piping are calculated and optimised precisely to the bre ow. This enables the pressure losses to be minimised and the energy eciency of the sifter to be improved signicantly compared to other systems..

This system meets tomorrow’s legal and standard demands on the energy eciency of drive systems already today. It comprises frequency converters, motor and gearbox - all well-tuned to one another. In addition to the energy eciency our R&D-work focussed on an improved precision and controllability of the entire drive system. The focus is on high belt speeds, precise r.p.m. for a synchronous operation of the steel belts, torques adjusted to the characteristic load line in connection with the hydraulic pressure/position control, good performance, good uptimes and ease of maintenance. This corresponds to the demand on a very high product quality and an on-demand energy consumption even in partial load operation. This new drive system is able to save more than 10 % of the electrical drive energy compared to traditional Solutions.

The EcoPulser by Siempelkamp uses a completely new almost wear-free, bladeless process to achieve an additional size reduction of chips and particles. Shock waves, generated by interferences of wavefronts aect the bulk material by breaking up its structure. Even the most abrasive particles can be processed using this non-contact treatment because the particles are broken up in the air. The EcoPulser disintegration bases on two counter rotating impeller wheels, which generate by their fast rotation extreme air oscillation and negative pressures. This air current takes in the chips or particles through the rotor so that their wood cells lled with air, water or ice tear apart by the negative pressure impact with the bres separating along their grain. The length of the wood bre nearly remains unchanged thus ensuring a higher board stability

Wind formers convey especially ne particles to the top faces, thus creating ne board surfaces. This is because ner particles are conveyed much farther in an air ow than coarser ones. The forming system of a particleboard line usually comprises two wind formers located at its front and rear ends, as they form the top and the rear board surfaces. The ecoFormer SL by CMC Texpan has been developed from the traditional wind former technology. This was because we wanted to improve the separation of coarse and nes particles to create the optimal board surface. The air ow was simulated using the CFD method (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and optimised with respect to its aerodynamic behaviour thus improving its energy eciency. Modern, computer-aided, reproducible manufacturing processes enable a more precise assembly of the individual components thus extending their service lives signicantly. Sensors monitor the wear thus contributing to an extended overall service life od HPC-40. For HPC-40, it was possible to extend the breaking load by 30 % and the fatigue strength by 40 %, as we were able to eliminate the risk of fatigue factors. It is possible to reliably remove reject boards without aecting the cycles in the rejects area. Acceptable boards continue to be transported towards the cooling turner. The rejected board stack may optionally be equipped with batch and package forming systems. These are for optimising the cooling turner utilisation and are explained in greater detail in the chapter about the ‘Cooling section’. The rejected board stack is equipped with a variable length adjuster or board lifter for the batch and package forming options. Reject boards are removed by lifting the rst belt conveyor. The rejected board stack may be optionally equipped with a buer for forming the reject stacks or with an additional belt conveyor that transports the rejects to the board breaker.

We have developed the Siempelkamp press extraction systems especially for ContiRoll® presses and adjusted them to the particleboard, MDF and OSB production plants. Being a manufacturer and supplier of ContiRoll® presses, we are able to suit the extraction systems to our presses. We have been able to trace the emission sources thanks to our experience gained from the commissioning of almost 300 ContiRolls® over the past 30 years. Consequently, we have developed special extraction systems, which are generally able to extract the fumes direct. The concept results in a signicantly improved air quality in the vicinity of our presses as well as in the production hall. Moreover, the emission of solids resulting from the technological process have been localised accordingly and are collected by specially developed extraction hoods. This results in an excellent system uptime.

The EcoResinator is particularly suited to full the specic demands that are made on the technology employed for the glue-blending system used to manufacture MDF. Siempelkamp has equipped the EcoResinator with Schlick two-component nozzles. The second component that is used with the glue is steam. The size of the glue droplets is set with the help of the steam pressure and quantity. The corresponding parameters required for achieving the best possible application of glue based on the breboard's density are stored in the program. The optimised gluing methods may either be used to improve strength with the same amounts of wood and glue o and bres while preserving the same strength. The EcoResinator can potentially save up to 15% of glue over classic b recommended for all MDF plants. The EcoResinator also oers benets when existing plants are modied at a later point in time. Their principle of operation is based on the rotation of a group of rollers provided with a specic prole or disc pattern; they are adequately spaced apart, whereby such spacing denes the particle size selected. The material is bouncing on the rollers to separate the fractions. Particles of a size smaller than the gap between the rollers pass through the roller spacing. Larger particles are conveyed by the rollers and discharged.
